Firmly believing that a successful alliance is a match of personality profiles, a new matrimonial service has created a unique software programme which sifts through dossiers and finds the most suitable match, writes Aarti Dhar...
Marriages are now going hi-tech. With the technology revolution sweeping the country, it has blown away traditional, elaborate methods of match-making as well. Gone are the days when match-makers or punditjis would fish out horoscopes and bio-data of eligible girls boys from their bags or parents going from 'Pathakji's' to 'Masterji's' to hunt for the best catch for their children. However things became somewhat refined when a few elderly retired men and respected older women started mediating as a special service and sometimes to keep themselves occupied with. "Marriages are made in heaven and solemnised on earth, we are just the mediators." they would say, modestly.
Now, the entire system of arranging a marriage has gone through a revolution. Advertisements, along with photographs, are placed on internet and computers are used for quick and easy retrieval of data instead of maintaining cumbersome registers and huge piles of yellow papers and sepia photographs.
A similar endeavour with high ambitions have been embarked upon by Mrs. Rashmi Kapoor, who runs the Sycorian Matrimonial Services in Delhi. She claims that Sycorian is a professionally managed matrimonial agency that is modern enough to understand the the present-day generation. "Not only do we provide computerised cross-profiling, a ready-to-use database and free and fair correspondence opportunities, but also the convenience of matrimony made easy." he says.
"We at Sycorian believe that ultimately a successful match is a match of 'personality profiles'. Each one of us has a unique personality profile. Using the enhanced learning of psychology and behavioural sciences, a unique software program has been created which sifts through profiles and finds the most suitable match." says Mrs. Kapoor adding that all one has to do is to fill up the personality profile form. Once the profiling is complete, the profiles of the matches are sent to the two members. But the onus of meeting and deciding the future course rests with the individuals. Upto 25 options are given and cross match is carried out between them.
"We believe that the information provided by the client is true but we can also get the same re-checked and provide services of an investigating agency if there is some doubt." says Mrs. Kapoor. The Sycorian - meaning a white elephant, which is considered a good omen - offers different programmes for matchmaking and the fee differs depending upon the programme. Each members is given a card with proper registration number . Started 10 years ago, the service is still in its infancy but Mrs. Kapoor intends establishing over 50 offices across the country and 20 abroad in countries which have high Indian concentration. Though the process has only just started, Mrs. Kapoor said it would be difficult to give the number of marriages fixed through their service.
The revaluation would be done at the year end this time and twice a year subsequently. The Sycorian home page on the Internet would also be operation soon which will further make them more readily available to members. "A constant contact and update of database is carried out to ascertain the matrimonial status of the eligible members, so that any confusion that might arise in correspondence may be avoided." Mrs. Kapoor explains.
All Sycorian centres would be connected to its main office in Delhi. In Delhi itself, the service will open office in Noida, Pitampura, Preet Vihar and South Extension for the convenience of the citizens but the offices would be run on franchise. Once the business gets going, Mrs. Kapoor plans to establish full-fledged family clubs in 20 centres across the country offering a variety of games, health facilities, restaurants, adventure sports and space for organising cultural and social meets. Another publication, The Sycorian Times Journal - which would be brought out soon will provide opportunities for businessmen and unemployed persons and market information to the subscribers. However, as of now, the Sycorians are focussing on helping people settle down before they start settling their other ambitious ventures.
The sighting of a Sycorian or white elephant in a dream indicates the presence of good fortune and happiness, feel people. This is the corporate vision of Rashmi Kapoor, the person behind Sycorian Matrimonial Services Ltd. whose latest venture was formally launched in this city recently.
"One of the major happenings in a person's life, marriage is not something to be treated with." Says Mrs. Kapoor.
Mrs. Kapoor's plans to appoint franchisees all over the country. "We are somewhat different from the family channel or the newspaper columns that only concentrates on one or two features. In our registration form we go into all kinds of details of the candidates with as many as 43 entries being there. We also ask for details of the match desired outlining as many as 21 considerations covering all kinds of things, from height to eating habits. Then we put all this down in our computer, we let them meet and work out other details. "
For utilising this service, people have to register as members with Sycorian paying Rs 11,000. For those above 60 years, the disabled and people from weaker sections, the rates are lesser and even installment schemes are available. The registration is valid for a year in which the company has to provide twenty five matches to the members.
New Delhi, Nov 1: Marriages have never really been made in heaven, at least not in India. It was always the benevolent , but rather too concerned older women in the community who made sure that the family boys and girls were married off "by the right choice, to the right person".
Now with these larger social network of joint families breaking down, in came marriage bureau equipped with computerised matching system and gigantic database of men and women searching for life partners.
One such bureau in Delhi, Sycorian Matrimonial Services, claims a state-of-the-art personalised software package which will help you get the person of your specifications.
Just fill up a detailed performa about yourself and then an equally detailed form on what you want. Ideal height, weight, colour of the hair, eyes, bespectacled or not, eating and drinking habits, community, caste, you can make nearly 20 specifications for the computer to match.
All applicants will get as many as 25 matching biodata according to their specifications to choose from, that too only from persons who match each and every one of the matching criteria you will have made.
And if just looking at the person's biodata is not enough, why not a swayamwar ? Sycorian plans to organise mamoth "one-to-one" interaction opportunities for guys and girls to get to know each other.
"We will get around 300 men and women together at one place and give them a whole evening to pick the person of their choice." Says Sycorian's Mrs. Rashmi Kapoor. And that too out of mama's deep-proving gaze. If wanted, parents will be accommodated in a waiting room, to come out and give their approval - and blessings - on the children's choice.
Sycorian Services, which collects applicants from all around the country, will even help arrange tie-ups between far-flung would be couples. "We offer travel and tour services for people who want to travel to another city to meet the person of their dreams." Says Mrs. Kapoor.
Ask why the unusual name ? "Sycorian means white elephant. Seeing a white elephant in a dream has always been considered auspicious. And we are here trying to make people's dreams come true." Expresses Mrs. Kapoor. Sycorian has been functioning for nearly a year now and has received nearly 5000 applications already. "The surprising thing is that most of the people are young men and women who wish to broaden their options, not just middle class people." Says Mrs. Kapoor.
However, Sycorian disclaims any responsibilities for matches going wrong or incorrect information.
